EXCLUSIVE: RED HOT JULIANNE MOORE FRONTS LATEST BVLGARI CAMPAIGN

Here's an EXCLUSIVE look at the latest campaign from Italian jewellery powerhouse BVLGARI with Australian Actress Julianne Moore. J'adore!!!! Apparently the birds - Shaka, aged 27, and Mr Bird, aged 13 were bred in the US from a pure Australian lineage and trained to work as "studio birds".

The inspiration behind the Bulgari photos came from a famous Helmut Newton shot of Elizabeth Taylor in her pool in the 1980s. "She was holding a green parrot," said the Bulgari spokeswoman, with the resulting image looking "very eccentric and charismatic".
She said Moore ''interprets a strong woman, eccentric and charismatic … and we chose a white cockatoo for its beauty and symbolism of grace and purity".

WELCOMING THE OLD; WAVING IN THE NEW: A LOOK BACK AT THE HISTORY OF LFW AND WHAT TO EXPECT COME FEB 19.

It’s now just 3 days until the world watches the city that never sleeps turn up the volume.

It’s just 2 weeks until the world turns to London for a style revolution, It’s 3 weeks until we salivate over Milan’s sexy sleek silhouettes and less than a month until the trend finalities are grounded in Paris -
the city where fashion was born, bred and currently resides.

It is of course, that time of the year where we celebrate the 300 billion dollar fashion industry by watching the leaders showcase the very best in design talent, cutting edge frocks, frolics and fantasy and get swept up in the romance, intrigue and inspiration that Fashion Week weaves.

The Autumn/Winter 2010 collections begin on Thursday in New York and end in Paris on March 11, but what is it that makes London at the very pulse of the fashion pack beat? Innovative and intoxicating, it is
THE ultimate accessible city. The city that can provide an entire revolution and movement. The city that can change the way you live.

The history of LFW:
It isn’t until one has had a look back at the remarkable journey that London Fashion Week has undergone since its humble beginnings in 1984 (the year I was born I might add!) that we realise just how important the industry is to not only the identity of the city but also to the support and commitment it has to its talent and its efforts to sustain the freedoms that make fashion one of the few things in life that remains fun and for everyone.

It was Dame Vivienne Westwood who was largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. It was John Galliano (now the Creative Director for fashion house DIOR) who exploded on to the fashion scene in the 1980s to secure the new crop of British talent today. In 1992, post recession, when London Fashion Week was reduced to a handful of designers showing in a few rooms at the Ritz hotel is the year that a 22 year old Alexander McQueen debuted his first collection and began the now famous trend of low-cut ‘bumster’ trousers. In 1995, then still a student - Stella McCartney debuts to huge press coverage and goes on to sell her entire collection.

In 2000, Victoria Beckham appears on the catwalk in Maria Grachvogel hot pants and turns some much needed attention back to London after the appointments of Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen at Chloe’ and Gucci respectively, draw the big designer names to Paris.

In 2001, architectural designer Hussein Chalayan pushes design to its limits by creating the ‘table dress’ and puts London back on the design map.

It wasn’t until 2005 that London really secured its future in fashion though, when Topshop made history by becoming the first high street store to show at London Fashion Week. This has since paved the way into lucrative collaborations and sponsorships between designers and high street retailers.

In 2006, British fashion entered into a vibrant and creative new phase, with designers such as Christopher Kane, Gareth Pugh and Louise Goldin influencing style all over the globe. In 2009, American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour returned to the front row after a 2 year absence in the relocated home of London Fashion Week at Somerset House and it becomes testament to the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) success at bringing back the big names to Britain.

Last year, London Fashion Week celebrated its 25th anniversary with a new home in Somerset House. So, what can one expect to see from London in February 2010?

London embraces the digital age:
London Fashion Week is the first of the leading four global fashion weeks to fully embrace digital media into its twice yearly showcase. The first Digital Schedule will launch on 19th February at London Fashion Week. This new initiative will bring together live streamed fashion shows and a selection of digitally presented fashion films created by some of London’s most innovative designers.

www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/digitalschedule is the place to be, the new element of London Fashion Week, where a global audience will be able to view fashion shows live from the BFC show venue at Somerset House, as well as those of select designers who will live-stream their shows from other venues in London.

VOGUE.COM BECOMES MEDIA PARTNER OF FBC!!!

Being a member of the FBC and occasional writer for their blogs, I know all too well how hard Courtney Blackman (i.e my "pocket princess") and Alison Whelan have worked to secure that the
Fashion Business Club is THE place where creatives meet, create and do business.

I'm so happy for them and look forward to VOGUE'S continuing support and involvement and future FBC meetings.
